Louise from LeftHome grabs a few minutes with Photographer James Goldsworthy to find out about the man behind the images.
LeftHome: You have a very varied portfolio, from abstract close-ups to beautiful landscapes, however a common theme running through your work is nature, would you agree with this or have I got it completely wrong?
Yes, I suppose so. It's not really intentional though. I do tend to see most of my visions realised through nature, but I really like to convey space or lack of and specifically mans place in this huge world. All of the time through the media, we read that the world is getting smaller, and people seem to think that we can control nature and make it our own, but I disagree. Through travelling and seeing the world through my own eyes I've realised what huge spaces still exist and how powerful nature is. A hurricane or tidal wave soon shows us whose really in charge. We are just play things for mother nature. Sorry, I might be getting a bit deep there.
No, not at all.
…I guess the main thing I want to achieve through my images is enjoyment. If I can take you away, just for a few seconds then I'm happy.
What interests you outside of photography?
I love being outside walking with my dog, I love the alps in the snow or beaches in the sunshine or the hills of Derbyshire. I'm also really content to be at home in the kitchen with a large glass of red. More recently I've found the joys of being a father, a really rewarding experience.
Favourite colour?
Deep powder blue, it makes my head go funny!
Abbot Ale or Stella?
Hey, that's not fair. It's like asking Winter or Summer? Both please followed by a Brandy!
What music would accompany an exhibition of your work?
Now I like lots of stuff from electronic to acoustic and most things in between. But for an exhibition I'd want something quite abstract and minimal. Maybe something off the first Icebreaker album 'Early Distant Warning'.
Why do you work with LeftHome?
Selling my images online through LeftHome was a really simple choice for me. The people are really easy to deal with, professional and really friendly. Their idea to show only the finest images online maintains a high quality not found on most other sites.
Thanks
As a photographer I don't want to get bogged down in the business end of the industry and LeftHome make it really simple for me. I fire off digital files that are then treated to the best post production process in the business, printed and wrapped professionally to the highest standards. I know that when one of my images is sold the customer is going to be really happy, and I'll get paid!
It's great for my profile as it gets my name out there in the art world. The main thing is that I am fully able to concentrate on the thing I enjoy the most, capturing beautiful images from my favourite places.
Do you sell images outside of LeftHome?
I shoot stock for some of the agencies and also do some commercial work and product photography, bread and butter stuff really. LeftHome is the only place I sell art.
Okay James, thanks for your time. Is there anything you'd like to say to our customers?
I'd just like to say thank for your continued support. Keep an eye out for my latest images here at LeftHome.
